For the senior volleyball players at Latin Academy, the City Championships must be old hat by now.

The Dragons captured their fifth straight City title yesterday, sweeping host Boston English, 3-0. The Dragons controlled the match from start to finish in winning, 25-4, 25-12, 25-10, and went undefeated in City League play for the fifth straight year.

"It's good that we work hard and we get rewarded for it," said sixth-year coach Rob Huie.

Ruth Le had 25 assists and Sue Hua (10 kills) and Kristian Tran (8) dominated up front to lead the Dragons.

Latin Academy had runs of 12-0 and 10-0 in winning the first set. English opened the second and third sets more competitively, tying the Dragons, 6-6, in the middle set and 5-5 in the finale before the Dragons pulled way.

Huie praised his senior class, which includes Le, Hua, Kristian Tran, Stephanie Tran, Amy Lee, and Michelle Wong.

"[Wong] was taking control of my defense, which is very important," he said. "[Hua] is the best hitter in all of Boston, and we have the best setter [Le]. They've all been in this since seventh grade."

For Boston English and first-year coach Sarah Follenweider, second place and a 16-1 season was plenty satisfying for a team that had one senior and was without its best player, injured sophomore Carolyn Torres.

"I was just worried about winning our first game," Follenweider said. "To win 16 is great."

Bay State: Christine Pongratz had 12 kills and 13 digs in Needham's 3-0 win over Natick.

Catholic Central: Cardinal Spellman (14-0) beat Austin Prep, 3-0, to clinch its first league title.

Hockomock: Katie Kalutkiewicz turned in 15 kills and five blocks as Franklin beat Bellingham, 3-0.

Nonleague: Canton topped North Quincy, 3-0, as Brianna Trabucco had 21 assists and Lee Pellegrini added six blocks and five kills . . . Amy Lepley had 18 kills and five blocks and Jackie Atkinson added 17 kills and 16 digs to spark Bishop Feehan's 3-0 win over Melrose . . . Liz Ashton's 16 kills helped Milford beat Walpole, 3-0 . . . Bourne topped Somerset, 3-0, as Meghan Donovan had 16 kills and Bethany Ashworth added 19 digs and 16 assists . . . Janisa Davila had 29 assists, 5 kills, and 8 aces in Cambridge's 3-0 win over Waltham.

Boys' soccer
Dual County:
Junior striker Conor O'Neill helped Wayland clinch a tournament berth by scoring one goal and assisting on the other in Wayland's 2-0 win over Boston Latin. It was O'Neill's third game since recovering from a broken orbital bone.

Girls' soccer
Commonwealth:
Senior Katie Roy scored the lone goal in Northeast's 1-0 win over Mystic Valley.

Dual County: Wayland's Claire Nishioka and Mel Sperling each scored two goals in a 5-0 win over Boston Latin . . . Westford Academy shut out Concord-Carlisle, 2-0, as freshman striker Dani Trani scored two goals.

The Duxbury and Plymouth North girls' soccer teams will host "Breast Cancer Awareness Night" tonight at 5 at Plymouth North. Money from a silent auction of items donated by local businesses, in addition to a portion of the gate admissions, will be donated to the cause.
