The only thing better for Harwich field hockey coach Cheryl Poore than getting her 600th career victory yesterday was that it came against rival Dennis-Yarmouth.

Rachel Hunt put back a rebound of her own shot 15 minutes into the game and the Rough Riders (15-1-2) hung on for the 1-0 win, handing the Dolphins (12-1-4) their first loss of the season.

Harwich dominated much of the first half but only got the one goal from Hunt, who was set up by defensive back Abigail Hynes-Houston, but that was enough. Melanie Hopkins made three key saves to secure the victory.

Afterward, Poore wanted to share the glory for her milestone.

“This victory was most important to me because of our 10 seniors and I want the focus to be on them and their accomplishments,’’ said Poore, in her 39th season at Harwich.
