Neither team wants to be the first to lose.

Yesterday, the Acton-Boxboro field hockey team did its part, beating Masconomet, 2-0, in the first round of the MIAA Division 1 North tournament.

Senior Alexa Sikalias had a goal and an assist for the top-seeded Colonials, who improved to 19-0. Masconomet’s Olivia Lobdell had 12 saves in defeat as the Chieftains ended their season 9-8-3.

The “other’’ A-B team? That would be the No. 1-ranked, 17-0 girls’ soccer team that starts play tomorrow in Division 1 North. The soccer team faces the winner of today’s Concord-Carlisle-Woburn preliminary-round game.
