Boston English didn’t skip a beat. Six days after defeating Latin Academy for the Boston City League volleyball championship, the second-seeded Blue & Blue (17-0) stayed unbeaten and advanced to the Division 2 North semifinals after beating No. 7 seed Winchester, 3-2, last night at English.

“Our biggest thing was that the defense was focused,’’ coach Hardy Mondesir said. “Winchester is a pretty good team. They hit a lot, so the defense in the back row, Karen Pagan and Unique Bridges, were keys. They had a lot of digs, made a lot of defensive plays.’’

Mondesir added that Pagan had an outstanding game passing from the back row. Junior captain Carolyn Loyo-Torres led the offensive assault with 40 kills and 10 aces. She had nine kills in the decisive 15-10 Game 5 win.

English advances to play No. 3 seed Melrose at home tomorrow.
