St. John’s Prep (12-1) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Nick Bragole drove a solo home run into the neighboring lacrosse field in the top of the first inning.

The drive gave Eagles starter Brandon Bingel a lead he would not relinquish.

The senior struck out seven over 5⅔ innings and sat the Hawks down in order on three occasions. It was a much different outing than Bingel had a week ago against BC High, where he was roughed up early.

“That was a week ago, he came out and played really well,” said Eagles coach Pat Yanchus.

One of the differences between the two games in Bingel’s mind was his approach early in the game.

“Against BC High, I was using the fastball a lot and they jumped on it. Today I just went out and started with the sliders early on,” said Bingel.

The Eagles scored in five of seven innings.

Paul Crehan stroked a double in the third inning that drove in two runs. The Prep was able to knock Hawks starter Worth Walrod out of the game after three innings.

Xaverian (5-7) was finally able to get some runs on the board late with, according to Yanchus, Bingel “losing gas.”

Jack Burke came in after Bingel’s day ended and pitched 1⅓ innings of scoreless relief.

Medford 5, Malden 2 — Junior Ryan Covelle pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts, while senior Jake Porrazzo homered and knocked in two runs for the Mustangs (8-3).

Watertown 9, Woburn 2 — Junior T.J. Hairston threw six innings and struck out seven for his third win of the season for the Red Raiders

Marblehead 1, Revere 0 — Righthander John Cavolina picked up his third win of the season, striking out five and allowing six hits in a complete game.

Plymouth South 5, Falmouth 3 — Junior catcher Luke Dickerson had an RBI double for the Panthers.

Everett 3, Cambridge 2 — Senior Zarief Pajazetovic earned the win for the Crimson Tide (7-1), and Matt Pothier was 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs.

Acton-Boxborough 8, Boston Latin 5 — Joe Euele clubbed a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning and Bobby Pedersen pitched 4⅓ scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win for the Colonials.

Wellesley 16, Dedham 2— Sophomore center fielder Peter Stabnick led the Raiders with three hits, three runs, and five RBIs.

Softball

Burke 21, South Boston 5 — Senior Renee Pierre continued her hot hitting by going 4 for 4 with two home runs, a triple, and four RBIs for the Bulldogs. Pierre, who is leading the Boston City League in batting, also had four strikeouts. Senior Brenda Calderon added a double and four RBIs, while senior Vanessa Anderson was 3 for 3 with a home run, triple, and two RBIs.

Lexington 4, Wakefield 2 — Maggie Oram knocked in the winning run with a single in the eighth inning to lift the Minutewomen.

Reading 5, Stoneham 2 — Sophomore Ashley Tango finished 2 for 4 with a home run and 3 RBIs for the Rockets.

Boston Latin 6, Acton-Boxborough 5 — Paige Mulry hit two home runs for the victorious Wolfpack (7-2).

Newton North 4, Braintree 1 — Senior second baseman Briget McLaughlin was perfect at the plate, going 4 for 4 with a run scored to lead the Tigers.

Cardinal Spellman 8, Bishop Fenwick 1 — Junior Courtney Zambello struck out 12 for the Cardinals.

Triton 3, Lynnfield 2 — Junior left fielder Casey Ross laced a single to right field, driving in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh for the Vikings.

Medford 6, Malden 2 — Freshman Ashley Eisnor threw a five-hitter and struck out nine for the Mustangs. Katie Napier sparked the offense with three hits and two RBIs.

Boys’ lacrosse

Franklin 16, Oliver Ames 4 — Senior Mike Patjane led the offense with five goals and two assists for the Panthers (7-3).

Cohasset 16, Norwell 4 — Seniors John Mills (three goals, three assists) and Nick Tangherlini (two goals, four assists) led the Skippers (8-2).

Canton 10, King Philip 5 — The Bulldogs are 9-0 for the first time in school history, winning behind senior Pat Ward’s five-goal, one-assist performance.

Nobles 11, St. George’s 6 — Junior Max Montgomery scored four goals and junior Morgan Cheek added three for the Bulldogs.

Roxbury Latin 7, Milton Academy 6 — Sophomore Sean Lowrie had one goal and three assists for the Foxes (7-2).
