Archbishop Williams senior James Daley stepped to the plate for a quick round of batting practice last week.

A 6-foot-4, 210-pound left-handed hitter with big-time pull power, Daley used a flick of the wrist to send line drives to the gaps, long fly ball after long fly ball to right field, bouncing them off — and sometimes over — Braintree Town Hall, which creeps into French’s Common, where Daley and his teammates play their home games.

Then he popped up his final pitch to shallow right.

“Time to hit the weight room, bud,” a teammate chided from the bench.

With no shortage of contributors, including Daley, and keeping it light and loose, the Bishops opened the season with eight straight wins.
