In a battle between perennial girl’s lacrosse powerhouses, Westwood and Needham left everything on the field Monday night. The two teams fought to the bitter end at Westwood High, with the No. 1 Wolverines edging the No. 4 Rockets, 10-9, with on Kim Egizi’s goal with just 1:16 left.

“Both teams are high-caliber teams and both come to play,” said Needham coach Beth O’Brien after letting her team know that she was proud of them because they never stopped fighting.

Westwood (13-0) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first three minutes with goals from Colleen Burke and Brooke Troy. Needham (11-2) retaliated with goals from Catherine Conley and Kailey Conry to tie less than seven minutes into the game. Neither team seemed to have the edge until the Rockets slowed their offense, moving the ball around rather than trying to beat the Wolverines’ speedy defense in a foot race.
