Knights shut out Boxers

Using his speed to his advantage, Catholic Memorial catcher Nick Barker drove in the lone run for the host Knights by beating out an infield single to cap a 1-0 victory against Brockton in a nonleague matchup.

Barker entered the game ranked third in the Catholic Conference with a .410 batting average and boosted his RBI total to eight with the game-winner.

Junior pitcher John Gorman (7-0), who leads the lead in victories, hurled a one-hitter and struck out 12. Gorman ends the regular season with 77 strikeouts and a sub-1.00 ERA.

Catholic Memorial, which won the Catholic Conference title at 6-2, is 17-3 entering the Division 1 state tournament.

Quincy 8, Silver Lake 4 — Tom Lowry broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth with a bases-loaded, two-RBI single for the Presidents.

Swampscott 8, Melrose 7 — Sophomore Sean O’Brien picked up the win in relief for the Big Blue after entering the game in the third.

Saugus 22, Pope John 1 — John Moore hit for the cycle and had five RBIs as the Sachems clinched a berth in the Division 3 tournament.

Lynnfield 13, Austin Prep 3 — Dylan Costa was credited with the complete-game win.

Danvers 7, Hamilton-Wenham 0 — Senior Matt LaFleur blanked the Generals with a two-hitter, striking out eight and walking one.

Softball
Braintree 4, Weymouth 0 — Katie Casey hurled a no-hitter, striking out five and walking five. Lindsey Troy slammed a two-run homer.

Amesbury 12, Andover 7 — The Indians, down 5-3 early, ambushed the Golden Knights, scoring 10 runs in the third, including a two-run bomb by Janine Fatal.

Division 1 North

Cambridge 3, Chelmsford 2 — Cambridge won the deciding game, 15-13, to advance to the final against St. John’s Prep.

Boys’ tennis
Chelmsford 3, Arlington 2 — The match came down to No. 2 doubles Declan Newman and Matt Wah, who got the win on the sixth match point for the Lions.

Girls’ tennis
Ursuline 3, Mt. Alvernia 0 — Sara Curtis, an eighth-grader playing for the Bears, won second singles, 8-0.
