The documentary chronicling the Madison Park boys’ basketball team has been shown in film festivals from Los Angeles to Boston, but this weekend it steps onto an even bigger stage. ESPN Classic will “Push: Madison vs. Madison” three times — Saturday at 1 p.m., and Sunday at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
“We’re excited about it,’’ said Madison Park coach Dennis Wilson, the film’s central figure. “We’re putting Madison on the national map.”
The film follows the team during the 2007 season. A release says “the film is as much about the challenges facing inner-city youth and the public school system, as it is about a school’s passion for basketball and a coach’s devotion to his players.”
The film will also air on PBS stations this month as part of the America Reframed series, and also on Magic Johnson’s new cable network, Aspire, in October.
