A strong run for Mansfield ended last year in overtime of the MIAA Division 1 state championship against Putnam. In the 2013-14 campaign, the Hornets (25-3) will look to finish the job.
“We felt we left it out there and our goal is to get back there and take it home,” said coach Mike Vaughan of his team’s 50-48 loss. “With that said, it’s not an easy road.”
Mansfield graduated only five players (including former captain Greg Romanko) and returns practically its entire core, but seniors Michael Hershman (hernia) and Kevin Conner (sprained hip) will be out until mid-January. All-Scholastic junior forward Brendan Hill, the Hornets’ leading scorer from last year, will also be out for approximately the same amount of time due to a football injury.
