Senior forward Jake Barbera scored just 43 seconds into the Reading boys’ hockey team’s first round North Division 1 game against Arlington Catholic and it was just the beginning as the Rockets took a 3-1 victory Wednesday at O’Brien Rink in Woburn.
“That early goal allowed us to get confident,” Reading coach Mark Doherty said.
Barbera’s goal came on the power play, when he took a feed from senior forward Mike Thomson and junior forward Sean Verrier.
“We’ve been doing better on the power play lately and it paid dividends tonight,” Doherty said.
Junior forward Ryan Smith tied the game at the 5:06 mark, but it would be the only goal of the night for the Cougars.
