WORCESTER — With 3.6 seconds left, New Mission senior forward Fred Rivers and senior guard Shaq Murray hugged and cried tears of joy while fellow senior Asante Sandiford went to the line for the last 2 of his game-high 18 points. The buzzer sounded just a few moments later as the ecstatic fan section chanted, “Stand up for the Titans, everybody get up.”

New Mission used a gritty defensive effort and a poised offensive attack to defeat Concord-Carlisle, 53-43, at the DCU Center and capture the Division 2 state championship Saturday. The victory delivered New Mission its third state title in five years.
