Amy Assad was on a bus headed back to Millis High with her teammates, the Division 4 state championship plaque on board, when the accomplishment hit her.
As the town’s police cruisers and firetrucks provided the Mohawks with an escort to the school last Friday night, she peaked out the bus window and saw Plain Street lit up by countless sets of headlights. It seemed as though everyone in the town was headed to the Millis High parking lot to celebrate the newly-minted champs.
The overwhelming support gave the junior a feeling she will never forget — one she hopes to feel again next year.
Both Millis and Division 2 state champion Arlington Catholic are flush with experienced underclassmen to make another title push next season.
