Brockton girls are doubles trouble

The Brockton girls' basketball team had nonleague opponent Sandwich seeing double last night.

Behind double-doubles from their three forwards, the Boxers (7-1) overmatched Sandwich, 67-43. Senior Faith Johnson (17 points, 12 rebounds), sophomore Taryn Johnson (13 points, 13 rebounds), and senior Joneiha Veiga (11 points, 11 rebounds) led the way for Brockton.

Boston City: Mikayla Hasberry (20 points) led Charlestown (7-1) to a 68-47 victory over Latin Academy. Sequetta Samuels added 18 points and 10 rebounds . . . Freshman Lashawnda Dixon scored 21 points as South Boston pounded Upper Quincy, 54-23.

Merrimack Valley: Andover (10-0) continued its hot start with a 66-30 victory over Chelmsford. Sophomore Megan Thomann had 16 points and 3 steals.

Boys' basketball
Boston City:
Junior Raheem Singleton had 15 points and 10 assists as Madison Park (7-0) rolled to a 75-45 victory over Fenway. Senior Bryan Blocker led all scorers with 24 points . . . Juniors Phil Jean (15 points, 8 rebounds) and Jerrill Ugwunze (14 points, 9 rebounds) led the charge as Charlestown (6-1) routed Latin Academy, 99-49.

Mass. Bay Independent: With 10 seconds left in regulation, junior Elan Ziff (15 points) made two free throws to give Gann (3-4) a 56-54 victory over BU Academy.

Mayflower: Senior Jon Schreiber had 19 points and 10 rebounds as Sacred Heart (7-2) defeated Tri-County, 57-41.

Boys' hockey
Nonleague:
Seniors Ryan Butler, Paul Manfredi, and Patrick Fidler-O'Neil each scored two goals as Arlington Catholic (6-1) rocked St. Peter-Marian, 7-0. Matt Murray recorded 13 saves . . . Senior Robert Goodwin had 24 saves as Cambridge (1-4) blanked Marian, 2-0. Freshman Shayne McDonald and senior K.C. Naughton scored.

Gymnastics
Dual County:
Freshman Violette Chartock placed first in uneven bars (8.7), floor exercise (9.2), and tied teammate Amanda Cheung on beam (8.8) as Newton South (3-0) defeated Acton-Boxboro, 132.4-128.9. Cheung, a junior, placed second on bars (8.3), vault (8.2), and floor exercise (8.9).
