For the third year in a row, Lowell and Andover will face off in the Division 1 North girls' basketball semifinals.
Both teams won their first-round sectional games last night. Andover trumped Malden, 71-37, and Lowell defeated Methuen, 61-45.
Andover is on the tail end of a stellar 20-3 season in which it handed the Red Raiders their only two losses, 59-45 and 35-33.
But the Golden Warriors have a tough semifinal history against Lowell (19-2). They lost the last two sectional semifinals to the Red Raiders.
"That's the way the coin flip goes," Andover coach James Tildsley said of the seedings and upcoming rematch.
Lowell coach Mike Crowley echoed those sentiments.
"I feel like they're an awesome program and we're also very good, and whoever plays well that night will advance to the Tsongas Arena," he said.
Laura Renfro (15 points, 6 assists), Meghan Thomann (10 points, 8 rebounds), and Ilana Cohen (10 points) led the Golden Warriors, while Kara Rogers (13 points), Ashley Rivera (11 points), and Whitney Wilson (10 points, 7 rebounds) came up big for Lowell.
Division 1 South: Ellery Gould matched her 14 points with 14 rebounds to spearhead Sandwich's 53-38 win over Marshfield. Kelsey Igo added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Division 2 South: Ali Hardiman and Emily Trapp each drained a pair of free throws in the final minute to boost Whitman-Hanson past Foxboro, 41-38. Trapp finished with 12 points, while Hardiman had 9 . . . Katherine Colpoy scored 21 points, propelling Notre Dame of Hingham to a 32-point second half en route to a 57-39 win over Bishop Stang . . . Mary Nwachukwu racked up 23 points and 20 rebounds as Dighton-Rehoboth halted Hopkinton's hopes, 51-40 . . . Caroline Stedman contributed 22 points, 8 steals, and 5 rebounds to Walpole's 63-49 win over Canton . . . Mary Louise Dixon netted 12 points in Wellesley's 65-43 win over Duxbury . . . Chelsea Shaughnessy's 12 points and 14 rebounds helped Silver Lake to a 60-41 win over Somerset.
Division 3 South: Carver took a 56-54 win over Medway behind 16 points from Megan Sheehan and 12 from Ashley Fruzzetti. Jill Muntz put up 26 points for the Mustangs . . . Andrea Vogt netted 19 points as Dedham ousted Abington, 61-33 . . . Stephanie Crawford posted 19 points and Jackie Bohenek followed with 18 in Rockland's 63-48 win over Coyle-Cassidy . . . Lesley Guenard (15 points), Kelly DuVal (15), and Alycia Dunn (10 points, 10 rebounds) led Hanover to a 53-45 win over Bourne . . . Westwood's Jill Greenberg scored 23 points and Paige Conzdon added 20 points and 15 rebounds in a 53-36 win over Ashland . . . Archbishop Williams's Valerie Driscoll and Meghan Black had 13 points apiece in a 64-26 victory over Old Rochester . . . Reilly Poirier supplied 14 points and 8 rebounds as Cardinal Spellman ousted Dover-Sherborn, 53-34.
Division 4 North: Shawsheen earned a 58-38 win over Mystic Valley behind strong performances from Melanie Strazzere (12 points), Selina Houghton (11), and Kristina Lee (10).
Boys' basketball
Division 1 South: Rob Sinewick made a layup with two seconds left as Weymouth earned an 83-82 victory over West Roxbury. The senior finished with 18 points, while Tom Deegan chipped in 23 points, 13 rebounds, and 7 assists. West Roxbury's Jerard Coleman put up 38 points, including six 3-pointers . . . Chris Briody scored 24 points, including 14 in the final frame, and Apollo Wade added 23 as Taunton trumped Newton South, 83-65 . . . Dennis Martin (24 points) and Marcellus Lee (20 points, 17 rebounds) sparked North Quincy's 76-69 win over Bridgewater-Raynham . . . Charlestown earned a 100-87 victory over Lynn Classical with the help of 34 points from Greg Hackett.
Division 4 South: Akeem Williams scored 52 points and had 10 assists and 8 rebounds in Avon's 83-53 win over Cape Cod Tech . . . K.P. Wholey (18 points, seven rebounds) and Triant Xypteras (11 points, 16 rebounds) lifted Hull to an 81-57 win over Holbrook . . . Javon Williams (18 points, 12 rebounds), Max Barbosa (15 points, 10 assists), and James Fitzpatrick (16 points, 4 steals) each had a hand in Cathedral's 81-46 win over Provincetown.
Boys' hockey
Division 2 North: Steven Kontos and John McInnis netted three goals each as Danvers defeated Bishop Fenwick, 7-2.
Division 3 South: Brendan Fitzgerald and Nick Indelicato each had three-goal performances in Pembroke's 11-1 win over Old Rochester.
Girls' hockey
Division 2: Milton (15-0-3) made Notre Dame of Hingham (11-10-1) hang up its skates for the season with a 6-2 ousting at Ulin Rink. Junior Samantha Bennett scored twice, and senior Shana Indelicato and sophomore Brianna Kelly each registered a goal and two assists for the hosts . . . Chrissy Bowler posted a hat trick for Hingham in its 8-3 win over Whitman-Hanson/Pembroke.
