L-S handles East Boston
Perez, Swords bust Jets’ zone
Coach Malcolm Smith went to a 2-3 zone defense to help his No. 12 East Boston squad slow down No. 13 Lincoln-Sudbury, but senior Mitch Perez shot 5 for 7 and scored 16 points as the Warriors downed the Jets, 57-39, in the first round of the MIAA North Division 1 tournament last night at Sudbury.
When Lincoln-Sudbury couldn’t get it going from the outside, the Warriors dumped the ball to 7-foot center John Swords, who scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
“We were just working really well as a team,’’ Perez said. “We were attacking their zone and I took the pressure and used it to my advantage. I see myself as the zone killer on this team and when teams come out in zone, we don’t mind it at all.’’
