Spotlight on Fontaine

By Chris Forsberg, Boston.com Staff December 18, 2007 10:01 AM

With Dartmouth's Jordan Todman verbally committing to the University of Connecticut Sunday, the Indians' recruiting spotlight shifts to junior tight end/defensive end Arthur Fontaine.

Dartmouth coach Richard White reports that Fontaine has already received two offers -- from Boston College and Maryland -- and a third offer could be coming soon from UConn, an intriguing possibility now that Todman is headed to Storrs.

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Fontaine caught a trio of touchdown passes this year and was a nice target for quarterback Sean Sylvia over the middle. With Todman's departure and the Indians likely to throw the ball more often next season, Fontaine figures to be a key player as Dartmouth looks to get back to the Division 1 Super Bowl.

But many of those 2,000-plus yards racked up by Todman this season can be attributed to the blocking of Fontaine, who lent his size and athleticism to an otherwise undersized offensive line. He was also a menace on defense, using that long frame to clog passing lanes.
