  1. I just went through the Boston Globe All-Scholastics for football. I am dumbfounded as to how the coach of Amesbury was left off as coach of the year. You heralded the Martha's Vineyard coach and his past record is indeed worthy of mention. However, his team's inability to stop Amesbury on any of its offensive plays was not exactly a high point. The Globe predicted that all Martha's Vineyard had to do was to show up and win the Division 3A Super bowl. There was absolutely no defensive concept by MV on how to stop a Delaware Wing T team. The Amesbury quarterback, Jarod Flannigan totally outplayed the All-Scholastic
MV quarterback. The Amesbury defense shut down MV and they scored two meaningless touchdowns against the Amesbury reserves. I am sorry but you totally missed it on this one. Martha's Vineyard was outcoached and outplayed
in all facets of the game.

  1. Ray Doucette from Cambridge has thrown for more than 6,800 yards and 62 TD's (which is good for 6th in the history of MASS football) and he never once made the ALL SCHOLASTIC TEAM. He probably hold every record in the history of CRLS and may have broke every record in the history of the GBL. He also has Ivy League grades in Honors classes. The people that pick these teams should be embarressed they never selected him to the team.

  1. Ryan Doucette was the most over-rated QB in the history of EMass. The only reason he put up such big numbers was because he was playing with perhaps the best recieving core in the history of EMass. His stats were so inflated. We all saw his numbers drop dramatically this year when a few of his stud recievers left town. My 10 year old nephew could throw for 6,800 yards if all he had to do was throw the ball up for guys that run 4.3 40's.

If he is so great, why isn't he going full-scholarship division-1 like a few of his recievers?

  1. It's hard enough coaching one town...look at what Brian Lee did at King Philip High School this year. He brought this team out of the dungeon and ended up with a 9-2 record this year in what some believe is the toughest league in the state. A repeat performance should get him coach of the year.

  1. What happened to the Bay State League in the Girls Volleyball All Scholastics list?

    Forsberg's response:

Only leagues that submitted their all-star lists were included. We'll add ones that are received after the publishing deadline.

Look for updates from:

  • Bob Holmes: A Reading resident (Go Rockets!) and Boston College graduate, Holmes is the Boston Globe High School Sports Editor. We remind you now that his weekly picks are often made in jest so everyone just calm down when he picks against Everett for 11 straight weeks.
  • Mike Carraggi: An Everett native (Go Tide!), Mike attends Eastern Nazarene college and is entering his second year with the Globe. He'll focus on Division 1 this fall, which means he'll spend a lot of time in his hometown, which Forsberg thinks is cool because the Tide have that Fried Dough cart.
  • Emily Wright: A Hyannis native (Go Barnstable Red Raiders!), Emily is a senior at Emerson College and has been with the Globe since the end of July. She'll cover Division 1A and will be the first intern we've trusted to navigate her way to Dennis-Yarmouth or any other school on the Cape.
  • Mike Grossi: A Lexington native (Go Minutemen!), Mike attends Northeastern and has been with the Globe for two months. He'll cover Division 2 and 2A and unsuccessfully lobbied to include Lexington in the preseason Top 20.
  • Jonathan Raymond: A native of Benicia, Calif. (a suburb of San Francisco), Jonathan attends Northeastern and has been working at the Globe since the end of June. He will be focusing on Division 3 and is likely woefully underprepared for covering a game in a foot of snow.
  • David Carty: A native of West Bridgewater (Go Wildcats!), David is a senior at Emerson College and has been working at the Globe for a year. He'll cover Divisions 3A and 4 because, "small school ball is in my blood."
  • The bench: You'll also catch updates from our regional contributors, including Globe North's Julian Benbow and South's Monique Walker. Correspondent Brendan Hall will have updates from the Globe West coverage area and will often try to sneak in Central Mass. news.
