Post-Game Central-Charlestown Notes
Here are some post-game impressions from tonight's Charlestown at Central Catholic Div. 1 North first round matchup. Central won handily, 76-42, and will be hosting Andover on Sunday.
The Red Raiders murdered on the offensive glass, even when Wake Forest-bound big man Carson Desrosiers wasn't in the game. While Charlestown couldn't compete in the height department, Central was always in the right place at the right time.
The Townies scored four point in the first quarter, mostly because they made it too easy on Central's defense. They rarely drove to the cup (possibly because of the presence of Desrosiers) and settled for far too many jump shots. It seemed as if Charlestown's strategy called for whoever crossed halfcourt with the ball to shoot it. Conversely, Central's ball movement was impeccable and is certain to put a lot of pressure on opposing defense as the Merrimack Valley Champions delve deeper into the tournament.
Desrosiers, who dominated defensively and on the boards, has more basketball talent in his shoelace than this reporter does in his entire body, but the big man still needs to assert himself more and move towards the basket as opposed to floating away while he is in the air. It cost the Red Raiders a couple baskets early (he only scored two points the whole game), and that may not fly against a strong Andover team. After the game, coach Rick Nault said that he could live with the two points from his star if he played defense the way he did tonight.
Jaycob Morales and Jimmy Zenevitch made a big impact for the home team throughout the first half. Morales's hustle and positioning won his team some extra possessions, while Zenevitch led the team offensively, scoring 17 points. Most of the second half was the bench's time to shine.

Worth a note: Central has possibly the best and most supportive crowd around (although the Xaverian football team has quite the following as well.) Many high schools coaches will tell you home-field and home-court doesn't matter as much in high school as it does in college and the pros, but coach Nault may say otherwise.
