Trailing by a goal after two periods, the Southeast scholastic boys' hockey team erupted for four goals in the third period for a 6-3 win over West at New England Sports Center in Marlborough on Tuesday afternoon.

Gerard McEleney (Canton/St. Sebastian’s) supplied the offensive spark for Southeast, not only scoring the team’s first goal, but also finding the back of the net to tie the game at three with 9:52 left in the third period. Forward Dan O’Hear (Walpole/Catholic Memorial HS) also had two goals for Southeast, while Tim Driscoll (Hingham HS) and Danny Griffen each added one. Tom Jenkins (Canton/Xaverian Brothers HS) tallied three assists on the day. Chris Sattler (East Longmeadow HS) led West with one goal and one assist in the loss.

Northeast 6, Coastal 1
Northeast turned in a strong overall defensive performance, particularly in the third period, for the win. In the second period, goalie Kevin Green (Weymouth/Dexter School), who had 11 total saves in one and a half periods of work, made an unbelievable two-on-one save, swiping the puck away while struggling to regain his balance. Each of the six Northeast goals was scored by a different team member, while Billy Boudreau (Newburyport HS) and Brian Sullivan (Burlington HS) each tallied two assists in the victory. The game’s offensive highlight came from Northeast’s RJ Caruso (Burlington HS), who beat two men to score on a breakaway in the second period. The lone goal for Coastal was scored by Kevin Seely (Berkley/Coyle Cassidy) on an assist from Jay Sylvia (Acushnet/Coyle & Cassidy) with 11:56 left in the second period.

Metro 9, Central 0
Central managed to stay within two goals through the first period, but Metro tallied five in the second to break the game open. Metro played with great chemistry throughout the game, with six different team players chipping in with goals. Brendan Collier (Charlestown/ Malden Catholic HS) led the effort, scoring four goals total with three in the second period alone. Mike Vecchione (Saugus/Malden Catholic HS) recorded one goal and three assists, while Nick Finn (Canton/Boston College HS), Doug Ussegilo (Waltham HS), Danny Graham (Billerica/Arlington Catholic HS) and Mark Fidler (Watertown/Dexter HS) each chipped in with one goal for Metro.

GIRLS' SCHOLASTIC HOCKEY
Central/West 8, Metro 1

Central/West jumped out in front early and never looked back, trouncing Metro at New England Sports Center. Central/West scored six goals in the first period, led by Jacqueline Tavella (East Longmeadow/Deerfield Academy), who found the back of the net three times, twice unassisted. Samantha Pion (Easthampton/Proctor Academy) added to the Central/West offensive effort with two goals, while teammates Jessie Stowell (Hadley/Hopkins Academy), Sarah Maloney (Ashby/The Winchendon School) and Meghan O’Donnell (Lancaster/Cushing Academy) each chipped in one. The lone goal for Metro was scored by forward Meghan Olsen (Arlington) on a pass from Kelly Downey (Waltham) with 9:21 left in the first period.

Southeast/Coastal 8, Northeast 1
The Southeast/Coastal offense dominated throughout the game, scoring twice or more in each period. Alison Quinn (Canton/ Southfield School) was the top performer for Southeast/Coastal, as she turned in a stellar, five-goal performance. Teammates Delaney Flynn (Scituate/Milton Academy) and Kristina Kennedy (Whitman-Hanson Reg. HS) added one goal and one assist apiece in the win, while Alexandria Gong (Hingham HS) tallied two assists. Despite the loss, starting Northeast goalie Elizabeth Darrigo (Billerica HS) played solid defense, as she recorded 21 saves. Livvy Kohaxis (Beverly/Danvers HS) tapped in the only goal for Northeast, when she redirected a pass from fellow forward Kara Donati (Saugus HS).
