Wednesday was a flurry of activity on the ice and many from the “Super 8 Watch List” were out trying to prove their worth, with mixed results.

So with only two days left in the regular season, we do have some questions answered, while many more remain to be determined, which should lead to a fantastic finish of a fantastic season.

SHOOTOUT SHUTS ONE OUT

Three of the teams in the Irish American Shootout came in as bubble-busters hoping to improve their case while getting a little help along the way.

No. 12 Westford Academy (13-4-3) kept their hopes alive by taking down Billerica, 4-2, in game one of the shootout. They will get the very last chance to impress the judges as they play in the 8 p.m. final of on Friday night, which turns out to be the final game of all of the regular season.

They will be joined in that affair by No. 18 Milton (16-3-2) , who has flown under the radar much of the way, but has now included themselves in the Super 8 conversation after taking down Woburn, 4-2. It may be hard to make a rock-solid case for the Wildcats, but a win over Westford would make Saturday morning’s debate a bit more lively.

No. 13 Woburn (12-5-3) looks to be out of it for good now after an up-and-down season that saw them back in the mix after taking down Middlesex Large champs Reading last Saturday.

LOCKED AND LOADED

The following teams should be firmly locked in to the Super 8 at this point.

No. 1 Malden Catholic (14-1-4) took a 3-3 tie against Hamden, Connecticut in the first round of the Springfield Cathedral Tournament, but that won’t affect them at all, especially since Ara Nazarian, who scored an OT game-winner against St. Mary’s over the holiday season, advance the Lancers to the final with another overtime.

No. 2 St. Mary’s (18-1-3) finished their season with the most wins of any team in Division 1 after stomping Weymouth 10-2 on senior night.

No. 3 St. John’s Prep (13-5-3) capped their regular season with a 9-0 blanking of Bishop Fenwick in their senior night.

No. 4 Hingham (16-4-2) pulled off a tight 3-2 victory over Arlington Catholic in the Cape Cod Classic, their final game of the regular season. The good news is that the win came in front of Cougars coach Dan Shine, who just-so-happens to head the Super 8 selection committee.

No. 6 Central Catholic (12-3-5) should have sealed their place in the tourney after winding up their season with a 3-2 win over No. 17 Acton-Boxboro that won them the MVC/DCL Division 1 title during a particularly up year for the league.

SOMETHING TO PROVE

The following teams have made a solid case, but may just need a little bit more to seal the deal.

No. 7 Marshfield (17-2-2) won their second straight game in the South of Boston Shootout with a 4-2 victory over Xaverian, setting them up for a showdown against hosts Bridgewater-Raynham tomorrow night in the championship game. A win in that game may secure their spot, but pundits are weary of the Rams chances.

No. 9 Needham (16-4-0) and No. 10 Springfield Cathedral (10-5-6) were both looking for a quality win to make a stronger case for themselves. The Panthers and Rockets battled in the first round of the Springfield Cathedral Tournament, and the hosts came out on top with a hard-fought 1-0 victory. A win for the Panthers in tomorrow’s title game against the mighty-Lancers will certainly put them in. Needham may have been stung by the loss since it was close one against a solid squad, but a win against Hamden wouldn’t hurt their case.
