An adult who used a hand-held laser in an attempt to distract Medway/Ashland girls' hockey players, including goalie Kathryn Hamer, has been barred from any future Winthrop athletic events. But the score of the game, 3-1 in Winthrop’s favor, isn’t subject to appeal and the game is official.

"As far as we can determine it didn’t impact the game at all," said tournament director Barry Haley. "This was an adult. It wasn’t a student. I want to compliment [Winthrop athletic director] Peter Gobiel and their administration. They've been great. But it's unfortunate."

Haley said the score was tied 1-1 when the man with the laser was spotted and asked to leave Larsen Rink. Winthrop plays again Saturday against Braintree.
