This week’s picks

Reading 24, Lawrence 13 — My son (RMHS Class of 2010) is in New Zealand, where it’s already Saturday. I had him look up the score for this one. As long as I pick Friday games, I shouldn’t lose this fall.

Barnstable over Durfee — Our thanks to Taylor Swift for swinging by Red Raiders practice and giving us a scouting report. And we’re still checking into the rumor about the national anthem at next week’s home opener.

Leominster over Everett — You don’t just lose a record-setting quarterback and keep winning. This is a wake-up call for Crimson.

Lincoln-Sudbury over Tewksbury — Orville, Drumlin Farm’s 45-year-old turkey vulture, will help me pick DCL games this fall. And this week, Orville says Tewksbury is buzzard meat.

Framingham over Wellesley — I know what your Pop Warner coaches have told you, what your batty Aunt Sylvia has said about your team in the preseason, but as far as I can see, Wellesley is nothing special.

Beverly over Concord-Carlisle — To think it was 25 years ago I put in my first photo assignment for a practice on Sawyer Road. Still don’t know why the photographer got lost.

Monomoy over Mashpee — Favorite summer moment? It had to be running past Chatham Bars Inn listening to Metallica on my iPod. And btw, don’t be confused by this game. It’s the first Monomoy game ever, but it’s a JV contest.end of story marker
