BROCKTON – Coach Peter Colombo and the Brockton Boxers spent the offseason trying to erase the bitter thoughts of last season’s 5-6 record.
In the season opener, the No. 12 Boxers went a long way toward forgetting the past with a 21-0 victory over second-ranked BC High at Rocky Marciano Stadium Friday night.
“A lot of people doubted us [after last year] and thought we were done,” senior quarterback Austin Roberts said. “They had no clue how hard we worked all off-season and it feels good [to get the win].’’
Roberts spearheaded the Boxers’ rushing attack, with 148 yards on 23 carries and two touchdowns.
Senior Ricardo Calixte had nine carries for 54 yards and junior Aaron LeClair ran for 81 yards on nine carries.
The Boxers got on the board early in the third quarter as Roberts ran for a 1-yard score.
“What we played tonight was Brockton football,” Colombo said. “We didn’t complete a pass, but so what?
“That’s what we’re going to do and teams are going to have to stop us. We have a lot of weapons.”
