Senior quarterback Ryan Kuchar threw for a pair of touchdowns and junior defensive back Luke Strangman batted down a potential game-tying touchdown with under 10 seconds remaining as Pentucket survived a scare from Triton and held on for a 19-13 win Saturday in West Newbury.
After a failed onside kick, Triton’s defense forced Pentucket to punt on fourth and 1 from the Vikings’ 48. The ball was downed at Triton’s 10 with 1:09 left and Pentucket up by 6.
With 35 seconds left and the ball at the Vikings’ 33, Spillane took a pass from Bradley Whitman and bolted to the Sachems’ 23. That play was followed by a 12-yard hookup from Whitman to Justin Cashman, placing Triton at Pentucket’s 11 with 12.6 seconds remaining. Full story for BostonGlobe.com subscribers.
