St. John’s Prep senior running back Johnathan Thomas is out for the season with a right knee injury, football coach and athletic director Jim O’Leary said Monday.
Thomas, who has committed to Maryland, was injured Saturday against Everett and will have surgery at the end of the week, according to a release issued by the school.
“Although Johnny is disappointed that this means he will not play for the rest of the season, he is looking forward to a full recovery and getting started with the rehabilitation process,” the statement said.
Thomas, a Globe All-Scholastic in 2012, had more than 700 yards rushing and eight touchdowns in four games this season. Last year, Thomas rushed for almost 1,800 yards and 15 touchdowns. Full story for BostonGlobe.com subscribers.
