Everett rolls over Cambridge in teams’ final battle

EVERETT — For decades, Everett and Cambridge, who first met in 1899, have battled on the gridiron. But on Saturday afternoon, the Greater Boston League rivals played for the last time. Next season, Cambridge will join the Dual County League.

No. 1-ranked Everett (3-1) continued its long run of success against the Falcons (2-3) in their final matchup, with a 28-0 drubbing at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium on Homecoming Day. Cambridge was the last GBL team to beat Everett, on Thanksgiving in 2001.

“I thought about it all week,” said Everett coach John DiBiaso. “And I let [the players] know all week. It is the last time we’re going to face them. I think we finished it off pretty good, the rivalry with them.”
