Bedford tops Pentucket

WEST NEWBURY — Bedford coach Jack Belcher doesn’t discuss the goals that motivate his Buccaneer football program, but Saturday, his shirt did all the talking for him.

On an unseasonably warm afternoon, Belcher took off his quarter-zip sweater in the first quarter to reveal a black Bedford football T-shirt. On the back, bold white letters read, “We Deserve What We Earn.”

And what his Buccaneers earned was a trip to the Division 4 Eastern Mass. title game, as Bedford drove home with a 22-14 overtime victory over Pentucket.

“We set a goal at the beginning of the year,” said Belcher. “We don’t talk about it except in the locker room. What that is, I’m not going to [say], but it’s not hard to figure now.”
