LOWELL — Relentless, dominating, unstoppable. Any of those words would describe Mansfield’s performance on Saturday afternoon at Cawley Stadium.
The top-ranked Hornets scored on their first six possessions and did not punt until just over three minutes remained in the game en route to a 41-0 shutout of No. 15 Waltham in the Division 2 state semifinals.
Mansfield (11-0) advances to play St. John’s Shrewsbury (9-2) in the D2 Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium Dec. 7.
“We’re playing great football,” said Mansfield coach Mike Redding. “We executed real well on ‘O.’ I think we’ve kind of been on a roll. We’ve got momentum, I think we’re pretty healthy now. We’ve just got to survive Thanksgiving, hopefully have everyone on deck for the game at Gillette. Just excited to play for the first true state championship.”
