Last week Xaverian learned the importance of the two-point conversion. This week the Hawks learned the importance of the field goal.
After beating Cambridge when the Falcons could not punch in a two-point conversion with slightly over a minute remaining, the previously undefeated Hawks (6-1) fell to Marshfield, 15-14, last night thanks in large part to a first quarter field goal.
Hugo Souza kicked a 33-yard field goal in the first quarter to give the Rams a 3-0 lead, but Xaverian answered with 14 second quarter points to go into the half leading 14-3 after connecting on one of two two-point conversions.
The Rams (5-2) came out strong in the second half and put up 12 unanswered points on touchdowns runs of 1 and 24 yards by Wendell Chipman. The Rams did not convert either conversion and the difference in the game ended up being the first quarter field goal.
Zack Asack tallied his 11th touchdown pass of the season in the loss.
