Annual Agganis All-Star games are on deck
The Agganis All-Star games mean it's back to work for local high school athletes.
Next Sunday four days of competition begin with the softball and baseball games. Both will be held at Fraser Field in Lynn with softball at 5 p.m. followed by baseball at 7.
On July 10, Lynn Classical will host two basketball games with the girls' game at 6 p.m. and the boys' at 7:30.
Soccer takes over July 11 at Bertram Field in Salem with the girls' game at 5:30 p.m. and the boys' at 7:30.
The games conclude with the playing of the 47th annual Agganis football game July 12 at 7 p.m. at Bertram Field.
The Agganis games are played in honor of Harry Agganis, the late Lynn Classical star and Red Sox first baseman.
Founded days after Agganis's death June 27, 1955, the Agganis Foundation has provided more than $1 million in college scholarships to student-athletes.
Xaverian graduate and Princeton-bound Mark Amirault was sixth in the 1,500 meters (3:53.09) at the USA Junior Track and Field Championships last weekend in Indianapolis. Stoneham senior Christina Izzicupo finished ninth in the heptathlon.
