In a game it dominated, Apponequet needed some late heroics to preserve a 14-13 win over host Seekonk in a South Coast Conference game last night.

With 1:32 remaining, Seekonk lined up for a 22-yard field goal that would have put the Warriors ahead. Nick Jablonski, a 6-foot-5-inch senior, crashed through the line and blocked the kick to give Apponequet a hard-fought win.

"I had the lane and just put my hands up to block it," said Jablonski.

Apponequet (4-0, 2-0 SCC) had 349 total yards while Seekonk (2-1, 2-1) had 122. Apponequet outrushed Seekonk, 226-29.

The game was close because of Apponequet's turnovers. Apponequet had the ball inside the Seekonk 5 on its first possession, but quarterback Mike Wojtkonski threw an interception that was returned 100 yards for a touchdown by Luke Thompson. On Apponequet's next possession, Wojtkonski was intercepted at the 1.

Apponequet's other two possessions of the half also ended in turnovers.

The Lakers took a 14-7 lead in the fourth quarter on Daryll Levesque's 4-yard run.

Seekonk pulled within 14-13 on Matt Quinn's 10-yard run with less than five minutes to play, but the Lakers stopped Bobby Jeannotte when the Warriors went for 2.
