The drive from Cape Cod to Cape Ann was a long one for Barnstable yesterday. But the drive home must have seemed like an eternity.
No. 13 Gloucester (4-0) beat visiting Barnstable, 67-6, in a nonleague matchup. The Fishermen took a 48-6 lead at halftime en route to their 18th straight win.
Conor Ressel scored a pair of first-half touchdowns, but he was the only Gloucester player to score more than once.
Barnstable's only score came on Doug Crook Jr.'s ninth touchdown pass of the year, a 40-yard completion to Isaiah Voegeli in the second quarter.
Merrimack Valley: Methuen 27, Tewksbury 20 - Mike Bartlett scored three touchdowns and brother Matt threw for two scores to lead the Rangers.
Bay State: Walpole 27, Brookline 0 - Walpole's Ryan Izzo ran for 203 yards on 22 carries and three touchdowns. The junior passed 3,000 career rushing yards, finishing the day with 3,074.
Wellesley 24, Newton North 13 - Michael Janney ran for a pair of touchdowns.
Nonleague: Wilmington 14, Lynnfield 7 - Evan Butters accounted for the Wildcats' two second-half scores as his team rallied to beat the Pioneers.
Blue Hills 46, Northeast 44 - Kevin Murphy ran for four touchdowns and 195 yards on 25 attempts as the Warriors prevailed in two overtimes. Tied at 44 after a Murphy touchdown, quarterback James Merrick ran it in for the victory.
Chelsea 14, Greater Lowell 0 - Sabahudin Omeragic's touchdown reception highlighted Chelsea's third win of the year.
Catholic Central (Small): Matignon 21, Trinity Catholic 0 - Two Davidson Peguero touchdown runs led the Warriors.
Nobles 33, St. Mark's 13 - Senior quarterback McCallum Foote threw for three TDs and ran for another.![]()
