Gloucester cruises past Barnstable

The drive from Cape Cod to Cape Ann was a long one for Barnstable yesterday. But the drive home must have seemed like an eternity.

No. 13 Gloucester (4-0) beat visiting Barnstable, 67-6, in a nonleague matchup. The Fishermen took a 48-6 lead at halftime en route to their 18th straight win.

Conor Ressel scored a pair of first-half touchdowns, but he was the only Gloucester player to score more than once.

Barnstable's only score came on Doug Crook Jr.'s ninth touchdown pass of the year, a 40-yard completion to Isaiah Voegeli in the second quarter.

Division 1
Nonleague: Malden Catholic 14, Burlington 6 - Two touchdown runs by Alex Weiner propelled the Lancers (3-2).

Division 1A
Dual County (Large): Waltham 31, Boston Latin 14 - Cameron Lett intercepted two passes and recovered a fumble in the Hawks' win.

Merrimack Valley: Methuen 27, Tewksbury 20 - Mike Bartlett scored three touchdowns and brother Matt threw for two scores to lead the Rangers.

Division 2
Nonleague: Weston 14, Sharon 6 - The Wildcats' Ed Blum ran for one score and passed for another.

Bay State: Walpole 27, Brookline 0 - Walpole's Ryan Izzo ran for 203 yards on 22 carries and three touchdowns. The junior passed 3,000 career rushing yards, finishing the day with 3,074.

Wellesley 24, Newton North 13 - Michael Janney ran for a pair of touchdowns.

Division 2A
Patriot: Scituate 7, Middleboro 6 - The Sachems' Jared Pike caught a 23-yard TD pass in the fourth quarter but the Sailors stopped the 2-point conversion try to hang on.

Nonleague: Wilmington 14, Lynnfield 7 - Evan Butters accounted for the Wildcats' two second-half scores as his team rallied to beat the Pioneers.

Division 3
Nonleague: Austin Prep 25, North Reading 12 - The Cougars' defense forced four turnovers and Pat Delaney accumulated 119 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries

Division 3A
Nonleague: Georgetown 28, Marblehead 14 - The Royals' Joe Esposito ran for 232 yards on 21 carries, rushing for three scores and passing for another. On defense, he also had eight tackles, a fumble recovery, and an interception.

Blue Hills 46, Northeast 44 - Kevin Murphy ran for four touchdowns and 195 yards on 25 attempts as the Warriors prevailed in two overtimes. Tied at 44 after a Murphy touchdown, quarterback James Merrick ran it in for the victory.

Division 4
Nonleague: Tri-County 20, Southeastern 14 - Tri-County's Lucas Mistler scored on a 3-yard run in overtime to defeat Southeastern. Mistler's all-around day included 113 yards on the ground and 59 through the air.

Chelsea 14, Greater Lowell 0 - Sabahudin Omeragic's touchdown reception highlighted Chelsea's third win of the year.

Catholic Central (Small): Matignon 21, Trinity Catholic 0 - Two Davidson Peguero touchdown runs led the Warriors.

NEPSAC
ISL: Rivers 31, Thayer 10 - Ben Patrick's two touchdowns (one rushing, one interception return) led Rivers, which improved to 2-1.

Nobles 33, St. Mark's 13 - Senior quarterback McCallum Foote threw for three TDs and ran for another.
