Ryan Izzo returned to the football field yesterday, much to the disappointment of Braintree.

After missing last week to rest an injured ankle, Walpole’s Izzo returned in a big way, running for 172 yards on 14 carries, scoring four touchdowns, and adding six extra points in a 42-7 win over Bay State rival Braintree. The 30 points gives him 643 points, 39 behind the all-time state record of 682, held by Austin Prep’s Nathan Sheer. His rushing yards give him a career total of 5,555.

The host Rebels jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead on two Izzo scoring runs, the first from 24 yards, the second from 60. By halftime, Izzo had scored again and the Rebels were on top 35-0. Walpole also got two touchdowns on interception returns, a 35-yard return by David Thibeault in the second quarter, and a 25-yard return by Mike Milien in the second.
