ACTON - In the end, it was worth the wait.

Acton-Boxboro presented coach Bill Maver with his 200th career win last night, beating Newton South, 27-0, in a Dual County Large contest. The result also kept the Colonials (6-4, 3-1) alive in the playoff hunt. With Westford’s win over Waltham, it sets up a winner-take-all game on Thanksgiving between A-B and Westford.

Maver’s milestone was delayed after Lincoln-Sudbury upset A-B last Friday. The Colonials didn’t let that happen again with a pair of two-touchdown quarters, the second and fourth. Alex Kim had TD runs of 39 and 17 yards, and Rob Goguen and Doug Treat each had a rushing TD.

Maver was excited about the accomplishment, but said his biggest thrill was being able to coach his athletes over the years. Maver’s first win came against Cambridge, 21-0, in 1985.
