St. John’s Prep kept its playoff hopes alive after defeating visiting Malden Catholic, 36-14, yesterday in the Catholic Conference.

The Eagles (4-4) were led by sophomore tailback Jonathan Thomas, who ran for 98 yards on 13 carries as St. John’s Prep bounced back from last week’s 26-7 loss to Catholic Memorial.

Thomas, who scored the lone Eagle touchdown last week, found himself in the end zone four times.

The Lancers (2-7) tied the game at 7 in the first quarter when quarterback Brendan Tobey connected with receiver Peter Norris.

The Eagles scored 29 points in the second and third quarters, three of the four touchdowns coming from Thomas.

Junior Alex Moore totaled 163 yards on 13 carries and had a 49-yard touchdown run to begin the second-quarter scoring for the Eagles.

St. John’s Prep is set up to play BC High (6-3) Friday in an attempt to stave off elimination.
