Longmeadow makes it two in a row

FOXBOROUGH - Longmeadow has been in the Western Mass. Division 1 playoffs every year since 1996, a state-record 15 consecutive seasons.

Yesterday, the Lancers defeated Springfield Central, 35-7, at Gillette Stadium for their second straight Super Bowl title.

Junior Frankie Elder scored four touchdowns and racked up 212 yards, rushing for 123 and two touchdowns, and going 5 for 5 passing for 89 yards and two scores.

Senior running back Terry Norris hauled in a touchdown pass from Elder, and ran 58 yards for another touchdown.

Longmeadow’s defense held the Golden Eagles to 153 yards and six first downs.

The Lancers totaled 354 yards and 22 first downs to take their 13th Western Mass. title.

Dylan Kelleher caught three passes for 70 yards and a touchdown.

Longmeadow finished the season at 10-4; Springfield Central ended at 9-3.

Pinkney sets mark

Putnam’s Melquawn Pinkney broke the state’s season rushing record with 341 yards in a 48-6 win over Springfield Commerce in the Division 2 WMass bowl. Pinkney’s total pushed him past Holyoke’s Cedric Washington (2,881 in 1995) with 2,899 yards.
