The first challenge came from within their own conference, a Catholic Conference meet against unbeaten BC High. St. John's won that one easily. Next was the conference meet. Again, a St. John's win. In the two meets that followed the Eagles won first the North sectional title, followed by the Division 1 state title, the school's fifth straight swim championship.

''I'm going to remember this for the rest of my life,'' said Brendan Moran, a member of the winning 400 free relay team. ''This is one of the greatest days of my life, and I couldn't think of a better way to spend it than with this team.''
