For Concord- Carlisle and Hamilton- Wenham, net results meant MIAA trophies. The boys' tennis teams at those schools won state championships in Divisions 1 and 3, respectively, on the same June day. Concord-Carlisle beat Longmeadow, 3-2, as the father-son combination of coach Bill Steinroeder and singles star Alex led the way to a 23-0 finish. Hamilton-Wenham had an easier day, beating Mt. Greylock, 4-1. For coach Joe Maher's crew, the title capped an 18-2 season. "As a coach, this is Cloud 9," said Maher. "I'm so glad these kids had this opportunity."
