10 moments to savor: Winter 2011
1. After 39 years, Martin retires on top
History was made in Buffalo and no one eve knew it. In a tournament win over Kimball Union, Belmont Hill coach Ken Martin won the 696th hockey game of his career. In doing so, he quietly passed Arlington coach Ed Burns as the winningest hockey coach in state history. It wasn't until more than a month later, when he won his 700th in a win over Phillips Andover, that he realized what he had done. "It's pretty special to be in a category with Ed Burns, because he's Mr. Hockey in the state of Massachusetts." Last month, after 39 seasons and 1,020 games, Martin announced his retirement.
