3. Bulldog determination, inspiring swim coach
Lynn English swim coach Michelle Conlon wasn't expected to attend the Northeastern Conference meet. An almost year-long battle with cancer had taken its toll. But there she was on day one, cheering, coaching, and inspiring the Bulldogs. Conlon wasn't able to make the second day and later that week, she died at age 38, almost a year after being diagnosed. Conlon isn't the Globe's Division 1 Coach of the Year because she lost her fight with cancer. She's the Coach of the Year because of the never-give-up attitude she demonstrated to her athletes and her love of swimming. Simply, she was a great coach.
