7. L-S ski coach and two tours in Iraq Today's All-Scholastic section salutes the heroes of the winter. But how about saluting a real hero, and not just in one season. Lincoln-Sudbury nordic ski coach Leona Spittka has served two tours in Iraq, one in Baqubah, the second in Baghdad. She was a captain during both tours, working as an Engineer Officer while performing a multitude of jobs. But she's modest, and points out that her husband Berndt has served three tours. So when you're done saluting the accomplishments of L-S state nordic champions Eli Hoenig and Corey Stock, make sure you turn to their coach and do the same.
