Boys’ hockey Players of the Week

James Currier, forward, St. John’s Prep — Currier came up huge against Catholic Conference rival BC High Jan. 26 when he scored twice in the second period to help lift the Prep to a 3-2 victory in the fifth annual Derek Hines Memorial Game. “Jimmy is capable of that. We’ve seen it all year from him in practice,” coach Kristian Hanson said of his forward.

Artie Potter, defenseman, Springfield Cathedral — He had two power-play goals and two assists against Minnechaug, a big factor in a 5-0 victory.

Derek DeCastro, goalie, Burlington — The Red Devils senior had his two-game shutout streak end against Belmont but before a stingy performance earlier in the week. DeCastro held No. 14 Barnstable scoreless last Monday just two days after blanking Winchester in a 3-0 victory. DeCastro has given up just two goals during Burlington’s three-game win streak.

Mike Sorenti, forward, Archbishop Williams — Sorenti and teammates Mike Jeffman and Nick Mendel recorded two goals each against No. 8 Arlington Catholic last Saturday. Over the past four games, the Bishops have scored 28 goals.

Nick Anson, goalie, Braintree — The Wamps junior had 15 stops Jan. 23 in a 2-1 victory over Wellesley. The next game, Anson shut out Natick, 4-0.
