At South Kent School, the star hockey attraction is defenseman Anthony Florentino, who attracted pro scouts to every game. But the team’s goalie, after a nine-month workout program, has been attracting some attention, too.

Shane Starrett, a Bellingham native, has worked himself up to No. 15 in the NHL rankings among North American goaltenders. He attributes much of his success to late-night workouts with his roommate, Florentino.

“Once I saw my teammates were ranked, I started thinking about it a lot more,” Starrett said. “I realized this was something I really wanted. I wanted to be there too.”
