Unbeaten Wellesley High girls’ hockey has junior achievers

George Campbell has seen a lot in his decade and a half as the head coach of the girls’ hockey program at Wellesley High, from the rise of a new program to the proliferation of a youth organization to 10 straight state tournament appearances to a near undefeated season.

But this winter brought something new: a team with no seniors.

What did exist of the Raiders’ original class of 2014 dissipated when its members, noting the large roles of the talented underclassmen behind them, stopped playing hockey to focus on academics the second half of high school.

That has left Campbell and Co. looking for an 11th straight tourney bid with a squad featuring eight juniors and seven sophomores — namely, junior captains Keely Corscadden, Cecily Docktor, and Sarah Goss.
