Westwood rides second-period burst past Wellesley in girls’ Divison 2 final

Westwood delivered exactly the way coach Justin DeSorgher said it would — with high tempo.

With a three-goal second period, led by by Kim Egizi, Jamie Burke, and Lauren White, Westwood registered a 6-2 victory over Wellesley en route to the program’s first Division 2 girls’ state hockey championship Sunday at TD Garden. It marked the first time since 2010 that teams other than Falmouth or Duxbury competed for the state title.

DeSorgher credited his senior class with changing the culture of the program to a winning one as the Wolverines finished 16-2-5.
