Duxbury's 5-3 win yesterday over Austin Prep wasn't just a case of a No. 10 team upsetting a No. 4 -- it was the first time in the hockey program's history the Green Dragons had prevailed against the Cougars.
''It was just one of those good high school hockey games, and the puck just bounced our way," said Duxbury coach John Blake.
Duxbury (15-4-1) struck first on a Terry Woods goal from the slot. The senior center is the team's leading scorer with 43 points.
''Terry's one of our go-to guys," said Blake. ''He's the guy we depend on to score some offense."
Leading, 2-1, entering the second period, Duxbury faltered, allowing a shorthanded goal to Austin Prep's Ross Guadet. Woods responded with a goal 20 seconds later, giving Duxbury a lead it would never relinquish.
Duxbury, which lost in a Super 8 play-in game last year but won the Division 1 title, isn't anxious about reaching the elite tournament just yet.
''We play every game the same and wait for that to sort out on its own," said Blake. ''[But] I think [the players'] attitude is they want to get back to the Super 8."
