Top-ranked Malden Catholic punched its return ticket to TD Garden and will get the chance to defend its Super 8 crown after defeating Central Catholic, 4-0.

Sam Kurker scored twice, including the winner in the third period, as the Eagles (16-5-2) defeated St. Mary’s, 3-1, in the final game of Super 8 group play.

Malden Catholic rang up seven goals against Hingham, including three by Ryan Fitzgerald, in a win over the Harbormen.

Central Catholic surprises
Central Catholic got a late third-period goal to send its game against Springfield Cathedral to overtime, where Jake Donahue won it for the Raiders, 5-4. Central advances to face Malden Catholic in the Super 8 semifinals Wednesday.

Sullivan’s strike propels BC High
With uncertainty hanging in the air, Matt Sullivan’s overtime goal gave BC High a big boost as it skated off with a 3-2 victory over St. John’s of Shrewsbury.

First for St. Mary's
St. Mary’s of Lynn notched its first Super 8 victory, 3-2, over Springfield Cathedral Wednesday night, with captain Brendan Magaery’s scoring the winning goal in the shootout.

The final match of the second round in the Super 8 tournament saw a sixth tournament game decided by one goal as St. Johns Prep escaped with a 4-3 win over Central Catholic.

Malden Catholic gets past BC High
For the third time this season, Malden Catholic and BC High faced off, and for the second time the Lancers skated away with a victory, 3-1, Tuesday night.

Hingham sophomore Sam D’Antuono scored the first three Super 8 goals of his young career Tuesday night - including the winner in overtime - providing all of the offense in a 3-2 win over St. John’s of Shrewsbury.

Malden Catholic has not lost a tournament hockey game since March 10, 2010, and Sunday's effort should be an indication that the Lancers might have what it takes to repeat as Super 8 champions.

Malden Catholic has been waiting 20 years to win a Super 8 championship, with anticipation growing deeper after the Lancers lost to Reading in the 2008 title game. With one flick of the wrist, Brendan Collier made it happen.
