With the score deadlocked at 4 at the conclusion of the first half, host Framingham knew it had to execute consistently to go on top and stay ahead. Sophomore attacker Moira Barry did just that, exploding for four goals as the third-ranked Flyers defeated No. 5 Andover, 13-9, in girls' lacrosse.
The Flyers (8-1) were on top from the get-go. Senior captain Melanie Baskind found a way to score as she stick-checked Andover's Katelyn Caro in the Flyers zone, scooped up the ball, and brought it back to Andover's side. Baskind later would be rewarded an 8-meter shot and capitalized over Warriors goalie Jules Konjoian (13 saves) for the 1-0 lead.
Samantha Zetlin (five goals) put Framingham up, 2-0, off another 8-meter shot, but Andover bounced right back with two scores by Caro (three goals, one assist). Kelly Driscoll and Heather Sullivan responded as the Warriors grasped a 4-2 edge before Rachel Igoe and Zetlin tallied for the Flyers.
"I thought it was great to get off to such a great start. Rachel Igoe, who's one of our freshmen, was able to take up the ball right about 40 yards and find the back of the net and that was really a confidence booster for her and for our team," said Framingham coach Stacey Freda.
In the second half, the Warriors struck first courtesy of Jess Forster (one goal, two assists). Natalie Gomez fed Forster the ball from the right side of the net as she clocked the ball in high over Framingham goalie Jessica Gordon's stick for the one-goal edge.
But at 23:21, Zetlin tied the game and the Flyers never looked back. Andover (5-1) threatened after Caro scored her third and final goal of the afternoon to cut the deficit to 9-8, but the Flyers put it away with two more scores from Zetlin.
